In Matthew 25: 31 – 46, Jesus calls us to reach out actively to those in need. Feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked and care for the sick and imprisoned, he says. Jesus asks us to act generously and with compassion to serve our neighbors near and far. Church in the Hills follows this charge joyfully, strengthening our relationships and building communities, locally and worldwide.
These are the outreach programs supported by Church in the Hills.
Beyond our Local Community
Church in the Hills’ outreach goes beyond our local neighbors to support missionaries in places such as Nicaragua and Eastern Europe. We participate in Crop Walk to provide food worldwide and Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child. We also support Marion Medical Mission’s well building program in Africa and the greater Presbyterian Church in its outreach in the US and in the world.
Our fall clothing give-away, Closet to Closet, takes place annually. This free program serves over 300 people with gently used and new clothing. All clothing is donated by church members. Anything remaining at the end of the program is passed along to other organizations that help those in need.
In time for returning to the classroom, our Backpack program provides Antrim County children with school supplies, hygiene items, clothing and backpacks.
Winters are hard in Northern Michigan and not everyone has warm clothing. Our Winter Coat Program is made possible with partnerships at various Antrim County locations in Bellaire, Rapid City and Central Lake. In these locations coats are displayed on clothing racks and are free to anyone needing a warm coat.
Christmas Family Assistance
Church in the Hills provides food and wish list gifts to 12 area families so they may enjoy a joyful and blessed Christmas.
Local Food Banks
The first Sunday of every month, Church in the Hills donates to Bellaire and Mancelona food pantries supporting families in need.
Pet Food Drive
Often, families in need sacrifice their own food so that their companion animals can be fed. Our fall pet food drive helps families provide for their beloved pets.
Help for Children
Church in the Hills also supports Good Samaritan Family Services’ Moms & Tots program and Bellaire Youth Initiative’s after school programs.
